CT plans $14M traffic signal replacements across 8 towns, including Southbury
CTDOT says the upgrades are necessary to improve the reliability and safety of signal operations at key intersections
SOUTHBURY, CT — The Connecticut Department of Transportation will hold a virtual public information meeting on Aug. 11 to discuss a $14 million project aimed at replacing aging traffic control signals across eight towns in northwestern Connecticut.
The meeting, which begins at 6 p.m., will cover planned upgrades in Avon, Danbury, East Granby, Farmington, Kent, Middlebury, Simsbury, and Southbury. The project, officially known as State Project No. 0174-0471, will bring outdated signal systems up to current operational and safety standards.
A presentation will be followed by a live question-and-answer session. The public will also have an opportunity to submit comments or questions during a two-week comment period ending Aug. 25. Comments can be sent to DOTSignalReplacements@ct.gov or shared by calling 860-594-2189.

Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2027 and will be funded entirely by the state. CTDOT says the upgrades are necessary to improve the reliability and safety of signal operations at key intersections, while keeping right-of-way impacts minimal.

- Route 6 & 67 (Main Street North) at SR 492 (Main Street South) and the Southbury Shopping Center (Signal 130-203)
- Route 6 & 67 (Main Street North) at Heritage Road and Old Waterbury Road (Signal 130-205)
- Route 67 (Southford Road) at SR 487 (Kettletown Road) and Community House Road (Signal 130-212)
- Route 67 and Route 6, including intersections at I-84 eastbound and westbound ramps (Signals 130-213 and 130-214)
Project officials say some new sidewalks may also be installed as part of the work, but overall disruption to nearby properties is expected to be minimal.
