Edelson: 'Help Bring Tax Relief to Those Most in Need'
First Selectman Ed Edelson issues open letter to the public on available tax relief programs.

To All Southbury Residents:
In an effort to reach out to the Senior Citizens of Southbury and those who are 100% disabled, I am enlisting your help to bring tax relief assistance to those most in need. Senior citizens (age 65 and older) as well as those recognized as totally disabled by the Social Security Administration may be eligible for property tax relief.
There are currently two income based programs available to Southbury Senior Citizen Residents: the State Circuit Breaker and the Local Circuit Breaker Match.

A single property owner with an income of $33,500 or less, or a married couple with an income of $40,900 or less can apply for the Circuit Breaker Program. Southbury property owners of at least three grand list years with incomes of $50,900 or less can apply for the Local Match program.
The deadline for applying for these programs is May 15, 2013. Please mention this assistance to your relatives and neighbors, and let them know that in order to receive a tax break, citizens need to apply to these programs every two (2) years.

Southbury has always prided itself on being a community where the residents look out for each other; I know that I can count on you to continue this tradition and share this information with your friends and neighbors.
Very truly yours,
Ed Edelson
