Suicidal Man Barricaded In Southbury Hotel Found Dead, Identified As Danbury Police Officer: UPDATE

The man barricaded himself in a hotel room for several hours Sunday and was found deceased.

SOUTHBURY, CT — State Police say the sucidal man who barricaded himself in the Wyndham Hotel on Strongtown Road Sunday afternoon was found deceased by officers late Sunday. WTNH News 8 reports that the deceased was a Danbury Police Officer.

According to police, troopers responded to Wyndham Hotel on Strongtown Road around 12:30 p.m. Sunday to conduct a welfare check. State Police, along with Southbury Police and the State Police Tactical Unit were all on scene.

State Police said officers tried to make contact with Drew Carlson, 38, who was a registered guest at the hotel. Attempts to make contact were unsuccessful and a State Police tactical unit gained entry and found Carlson dead, State Police said.

Carlson joined the Danbury Police Department in 2004 and achieved the rank of Sergeant, WTNH News 8 reports.

Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Unit was called in to investigate the cause and manner of death. No foul play is suspected.
