No 'Pay Per Pound' For Southbury

First Selectman Ed Edelson put rumors to rest that Southbury won't switching to a pay per pound trash-weighing system.

Southbury won’t convert to a “pay per pound” system, despite rumors that have said otherwise, because First Selectman Ed Edelson called it impractical for the town, especially since Southbury doesn’t pick up residents’ waste at the curb, according to the Rep-Am.

Residents can continue to bring their garbage to the transfer station on Kettletown Road, where it is compacted and trucked out of town for incineration, the Rep-Am reports.

Edelson suspects rumors swirled because the town’s new public works director, Mark Austin, successfully implemented the pay per pound system in Bristol, where he worked prior to his new job, the Rep-Am reports.
