Obituary: Jean E. Smith, 91, of Southbury

Jean E. Smith, 91, of Southbury, wife of the late Walter Smith died on Wednesday, June 12 at New Milford Hospital. She was born December 23, 1921 in Stamford, daughter of the late Francis and Myrtle M. (Meyers) Demme.

Jean was a talented quilter, stain glass artist and craft person. She was the owner and operator of Genie Gift Shop in Danbury until her retirement. After her time as owner/operator she spent her years spoiling the grandchildren and great grandchildren that she adored.

Jean will be missed by her daughter, Dale J. Glaser and her husband Robert of New Milford; four grandchildren, Lorraine Glaser and Jennifer Cahalan and her husband Gerard of New Milford; Karen VanVliet and her husband Frans of Bethel and Susan Kolukisa and her husband Levent of Torrington; 8 great grandchildren, Liam and Seamus Cahalan; Remy, Skylar and Eli VanVliet; Morgan, Daniel and Sophie Kolukisa.

Jean is predeceased by her daughter, Dana Lee Smith and her sister, Alcena Roof.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 17 at Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury. Burial will follow in Umpawaug Cemetery. The family will receive friends between the hours of 1 - 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 16 at the funeral home.
