Proposed Pipeline Project Could Bring More Natural Gas to Southbury

Dialogue begins on the project with public information meeting.

Access Northeast, a project that will expand portions of 1,127 miles of gas pipeline that has run through Southbury and other New England towns since 1953, started its first phase with a public information meeting at the Crowne Plaza on Wednesday, according to the Republican-American.

The Algonquin Gas Transmission system won’t be filed for with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission until late 2016, and construction won’t start until 2018, the Rep-Am reports.

The pipeline provides domestic natural gas to heat homes and businesses throughout the state, the Rep-Am reports. Improvements to the pipeline are necessary to meet increased demand for natural gas.
