Police: Drunk Driver Takes Out Several Guard Posts, Flees the Scene

The following arrest information was supplied by the Southbury Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Jeffrey Stanton, 57, of Sandy Hook, was charged with DUI, evading the scene of an accident and unsafe movement of a vehicle on April 17 at approximately 3:28 p.m.

According to police, Stanton exited the Bent of River Audubon onto East Flat Hill Road in Southbury in his 2008 Mercury. At this time he crossed into the opposing lane of traffic, drove off the roadway and struck and destroyed five wooden guard posts and left the scene.

Evidence left behind at the crash scene and witnesses led Southbury Police to find Stanton in Sandy Hook, where he was also operating under the influence.

Stanton was released on $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear on Waterbury Superior Court on May 1.
