Safety Precautions Issued After Black Bears Spotted in Southbury

Several residents have reported black bear sightings in Southbury and the town has recently confirmed multiple sightings.  

With resident’s safety in mind, the town has released a list of do’s and don’ts about Black Bears.  

The document says aggression by bears towards humans is exceptionally rare but encourages all residents to clean their outdoor grills after use, discontinue bird feeders during summer months and keep all garbage cans and pet food inside at night.
