Several Conditions Put In Place Regarding New Power Plant in Oxford
Safety and necessity concerns over new power plant that was recently approved by the Connecticut Siting Council.

Competitive Power Ventures has announced yesterday that it has received approval from the Connecticut Siting Council to construct its proposed 785-megawatt (MW) nameplate capacity CPV Towantic Energy Center in Oxford.
But, 21 conditions have been put in place by the council because too many issues were left undecided, including whether the site’s proximity to Waterbury-Oxford Airport is a potential safety hazard to pilots, according to the Republican-American.
The siting council demanded a determination to the Federal Aviation Administration be submitted regarding the obstruction to air navigation.

Oxford officials say the project will generate $5.1 million in tax revenue which will help keep the tax rate to a minimum, the Rep-Am reports.

Steve Savarese, Middlebury’s town attorney, told the Rep-Am that the biggest defect in this decision is that a series of other agencies’ rulings that have not yet been rendered are left open.
The siting council has demanded construction be finished by June 1, 2019, the Rep-Am reported.
