[Update] Southbury Snow Storm Central

[Update: 11 a.m.] Snow continues to fall lightly on Southbury, but all is well as far as power outages and road closures.

The earlier power outages in Southbury, 39 homes were in the dark, have been resolved and every home in town has electricity as of 11 a.m., according to CL&P.

The Southbury Police Department is reporting no incidents and no road closures, as of 11 a.m., according to police dispatch.

The Southbury Fire Department has not responded to any storm related calls, although all apparatus are fully fueled and all equipment has been checked, according to Southbury Firefighter Lieutenant Jason Decremer.

[Original Story] The nor'easter took its time moving toward Southbury, but now that it's here the snow is starting to pile up and impacts are beginning to be felt — in town and across the state and region.

Early this morning, along with the snow came a blizzard of school closures, and Region 15 was among the districts on that list.

The latest forecast from the National Weather Service is predicting that we'll get about 2 to 4 inches of new snow today, March 8. The snow will give way to rain and periodic snow showers after 4 p.m., the weather service says.

Winds will be relatively strong today, between 16 and 22 miles per hour, according to the forecast. That shoud make the mid-30 temperatures feel a bit colder.

The wind, coupled with wet, heavy snow, also presents the possibility of power outages.  As of 9:30 a.m., 39 homes in Southbury were without power, according to CL&P.

On the upside, tomorrow is supposed to be a bright, sunny Saturday. And there's a lot going on in town and others around us.
