Southbury Boy Scouts to Fundraise at Memorial Day Picnic

Veterans will be served free of charge.

Boy Scout Troop 1607, which is chartered by VFW Post 1607 in Southbury, will be selling burgers, hot dogs, drinks and snacks to attendees of the town’s annual Memorial Day Picnic on Monday, May 30th, at Ballantine Park. Although the Town of Southbury hosts the picnic and provides family entertainment, the Boy Scouts organize the purchase and sale of the food and drinks as the Troop’s annual main fundraiser. As in past years, the scouts will continue with their tradition of serving free food to Veterans who attend the event. In recognition of their service to our county, any Veteran or active military personnel, is invited and encouraged to come and enjoy a free meal, personally served to them by one of the Boy Scouts. The concession stand will be open for food and drink purchase at the Ballantine Park pavilion immediately following the town’s parade.

The troop, which is sponsored by Southbury VFW Post 1607, uses the money raised from this event to help fund scouting programs throughout the year. Through their community involvement, the Boy Scouts participate in a variety of veteran run events and also assist with the maintenance and upkeep of the VFW hall.
