Southbury Police Officers Honored For Rescue Of Kidnapping Victim
Several officers received awards for their efforts in the rescue of a kidnapping victim in Southbury.
SOUTHBURY, CT — Several Southbury police officers were honored this week for their efforts in rescuing a kidnapping victim and arresting the suspect in May.
On May 10, the Southbury Police Department received a 911 call reporting that a woman was forcibly abducted by a man in Southbury.
“Southbury Police and Connecticut State Police Troopers responded to the area in an effort to locate the victim,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “The preliminary on-scene investigation revealed a video that depicted the abduction of the victim by force, and the male was threatening the victim's life. Southbury Police quickly identified a possible suspect.

“Police then used various forms of technology to locate the suspect and his vehicle. A felony traffic stop was initiated, and the suspect was taken into custody. The female victim was located with minor injuries and was provided with the appropriate medical care.”
The suspect was later charged with second-degree kidnapping, unlawful restraint, disorderly conduct, third-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and second-degree threatening.

“Due to the exceptional efforts during a rapidly evolving and stressful situation displayed by numerous Southbury police officers, Connecticut State Troopers and dispatch personnel during the initial stages of this investigation, a domestic violence victim was rescued and prevented from enduring any further harm,” police wrote. “Today [Nov. 12] seven members of the Southbury Police Department and members from the Connecticut State Police, received recognition at the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection award ceremony. An award for Outstanding Service was presented to Sergeant Joshua Recupero, Detective Brianna Critelli, and Officer Brian Flynn (Ret.). A Unit Citation award was presented to Sergeant Anthony Armeno, Officer Brian McKirryher, Officer Michael Loiacono, and Officer Tyler Sullivan.
“We are proud of these men and women and the service they uphold to our Southbury community.”
