Southbury Police Perform More Patrols in Rope Swing Area

There will be an elevated police presence in the rope swing area of the Pomperaug River after people ignore no trespass signs.

Southbury Police are performing patrols in the area off Berkshire Road where a Bridgeport man was injured after falling from a rope swing Monday while trying to jump into the Pomperaug River, according to the Republican-American.

Monday’s incident wasn’t the first trespassing incident in the area, the Rep-Am reports. Trespassing tickets were given to four people on Sunday and a fifth person was arrested for first-degree criminal trespass, which is a more serious charge.

The rope swing the man jumped from was cut down by Southbury town workers Tuesday, but a new one was put back later that day, the Rep-Am reports.

Signs put up after Monday’s incident were thrown to the ground when police patrolled Wednesday, the Rep-Am reports. The town-owned land is a popular destination for people to swim when the weather is nice, and someone even built a platform in the tree for others to jump from.
