Check Out Southbury's New Police Vehicles

Cars have all wheel drive and improved communication systems.

The Southbury Police Department received two new police vehicles last week with state-of-the art communication systems and several features including all wheel drive.

“This is the start of a new generation of Southbury police cars after decades of working with the Crown Victorias – a very reliable vehicle that is no longer available,” said Southbury First Selectman Ed Edelson. “You will immediately notice the differences in the exterior, but what’s underneath is more important for the safety of our citizens and police officers.”

The vehicles are equipped with all wheel drive, security features on the transmission and ergonomically improved positioning of the police laptops and keyboard, said Edelson.

“These are really mobile offices with over 1,100 feet of wiring to support state-of-the art communications and computing capability. Thus our officers can spend more time in the field but with access to the information and resources they require.”

The department will be evaluating the two vehicles over the next month, said Edelson.

“The thought that went into the interior and exterior design of this vehicle by Corporal Brian Hughes and other members of our police force is evident,” said Edelson. “Congratulations to all who were involved.”
