Southbury Police to Collect Unused Prescription Drugs
Citizens can dispose of their pills "free and anonymously, no questions asked".

Local citizens can dispose of leftover prescription drugs at the Southbury Police Department, on Saturday, April 27.
Police will collect prescription drugs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in association with the Drug Enforcement Agency.
According to a press release from Southbury Police, disposing of drugs by throwing them in the trash or flushing them down the toilet still pose health and safety hazards.

Citizens can dispose of their pills “free and anonymously, no questions asked” according to the release.
Last year Southbury police collected 86 pounds of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs.

"This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue," said the release. "Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs."
