Southbury Republican Announces Candidacy for First Selectman
Longtime Southbury resident John Monteleone will contest First Selectman Ed Edelson for top Southbury office.

Republican and 35-year resident of Southbury, John Monteleone, announced his candidacy for the office of the Southbury First Selectman Tuesday night.
“The aim of my candidacy is to focus on Southbury and to represent our need for careful planning towards a positive future,” said Monteleone. “My background will enable me to bring vision, sound judgment, perspective and leadership to the planning, development and realization of a positive future for Southbury.”
Monteleone is the President Elect of the Tribury Rotary Club and a participant in the Southbury Business Association.
“I am proud of Southbury's past and want to ensure its preservation,” he said. “At the same time, as Southbury continues to grow, it is important that we pay close attention to how it grows and how that growth affects all our citizens. We must find the proper balance between preserving our rural character and history while encouraging a vibrant economy.”
Monteleone said he is in the process of assembling a campaign team and will be making further announcements in the future to outline his platform and provide further information about himself.

John A. Monteleone - Background
John Monteleone was born in Manhattan and raised in Rochester, New York. He has a BS in Business Administration from the University of Rochester. He has been married to Susan Monteleone for over 4 decades and they have 2 children who graduated from Pomperaug High School and 3 grandchildren. His parents are both 93 and live in their own home in Rochester, NY. John moved his family to Southbury in 1979 as a result of a transfer from Wilmington, DE while employed by the DuPont Company. Since then, they have established strong roots in one of the most beautiful towns in New England. John and his wife Susan have volunteered for years in providing community service. John has been active in the field of education using the skills he learned from his extensive corporate and small business background.
COMMUNITY SERVICE John has been involved in volunteer community service for many years in Southbury including working with the Southbury Youth Baseball program as a coach and it’s President. He currently is President Elect of the Tribury Rotary Club (Woodbury–Southbury–Middlebury).
Susan and John are certified instructors for two programs that they run locally. · Live Well Program – a six week Chronic Disease Self – Management Program created by Stanford University and administered by the Western Connecticut Area Agency on Aging (WCAAA) held at the Jewish Federation Campus in Southbury. ·
Thresholds – a twelve week five step Decision-Making Program for inmates in Connecticut’s Prison System administered by the Connecticut Department of Corrections. They run this program at Garner Correctional Institution, a level 4 – maximum security prison located in Newtown.
Susan and John conduct the Happiness Connections program held on the third Monday of each month at the Jewish Federation. John also participates in the Southbury Business Association with Susan and he is a member of the Local Substance Abuse Prevention Council. They have been docents at the Bullet Hill School since 2011. John has volunteered and has been appointed to serve on Southbury’s Town Charter Revision Commission. He is also a member of King Solomon’s Lodge #7 located in Woodbury.
EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES Mr. Monteleone is a life-long learner, has a strong interest in education and has held advisory board/ adjunct professor positions in a number of areas including adjunct professor of business development and entrepreneurship at Post University - The Management Center & School of Business, Naugatuck Valley Community College - Professional Development Center and Tunxis Community College. He is the Past Chairman of the Danbury Community Education Advisory Council (DCEAC) and Past Co-Chairman of the Danbury Drop-out Prevention Task Force. He was a candidate for the Region 15 Board of Education in 2011.
BUSINESS EXPEREINCE AND ACTIVITIES His business background includes more than two decades with DuPont. While there, he held professional and managerial positions in Accounting & Finance, Manufacturing, Materials Management, Human Resources, Business Re-engineering, Marketing, Distribution, Quality Control and Management Information Systems.
His small business experience was with a number of established and start-up companies including consulting in the areas of financial, organizational and operational challenges associated with business transitional issues due to growth, restructuring, turnaround, potential sale or change of control. In addition, John has held executive level positions in a wide variety of industries including, solid state lighting (LED), digital continuous color printing, biometric security, e-commerce, on-line international business facilitation and publishing.
