Southbury Rope Swing Removed After Man Falls and Suffers Serious Injuries

An unidentified Bridgeport man unsuccessfully tried to swing from a rope into the river and fell to the ground, suffering serious injuries.

An unidentified Bridgeport man climbed onto a platform in a tree leaning over the Pomperaug River on Monday at around 5:40 p.m. and jumped from a rope swing attached to the tree, the Rep-Am reports.

After losing his grip, the man, who was wearing a life jacket, fell to the ground and rolled at least 30 feet down a steep, rocky bank, landing on the river’s edge and never making it into the water, the Rep-Am reports.

A witness contacted emergency responders who took the man by ambulance to Waterbury Hospital, where he was treated for serious injuries, the Rep-Am reports. His condition wasn’t known.
