Southbury Student Selected for ASAP Young Writers Program

Josephina Drago's work selected to be read at the ASAP event was dedicated to her teacher.

Southbury/Middlebury, CT – Josephina Drago, a third grade student at Gainfield Elementary School in Southbury, was selected to participate in the After School Arts Program (ASAP) Celebration of Young Writers 11th Anniversary on Saturday, June 4th. ASAP, is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing young students with opportunities to create meaningful works of art in a creative and collaborative environment. The Celebration of Young Writers event was hosted this year by Hollywood actor and activist, Jonathan Del Arco.

Nearly 200 students from across the state of Connecticut submitted their writing to ASAP. 10 pieces of writing, including Josephina’s, were read at the event, hosted at The Gunnery in Washington, CT. Josephina’s selected piece was titled, “"Not Tired" a fun, cute rhyming poem about not being able to fall asleep and some of the things she was doing to try to get to sleep, “I was counting sheep, making sure my blankets weren't in a heap.” Her piece was dedicated to her third grade teacher, Mary Cornier, at Gainfield Elementary School.
