On May 1, 2013 the New Haven County Tax Collectors’ Association presented Pomperaug High School senior Stephen Davis with a $250 scholarship award.
Applicants for the annual scholarship had to submit a one page essay on the topic of “How State and Local Taxes Can Affect My Education.” A total of 24 students competed for two scholarship awards. The other recipient was Lauren Clark of Wallingford. Stephen’s essay was very unique and excellent and highlighted the Early Intervention Education Program that is made possible through State and local taxes.
As Stephen stated, “I began this program as a two year old and as the early years of school passed, the future started to slowly look brighter.” He has since succeeded in his middle school and high school careers and we wish him well when he attends Nichols College next year.
