Town, School Budget Pass in Southbury

The Southbury town and regional school budget both passed referendum with ease Wednesday night.

The following unofficial numbers were released moments ago after polls closed at the Center Firehouse in Southbury:

Town Budget

Yes – 2,291
No – 506

Region 15 Budget

Southbury:
Yes – 2,027
No – 773

Middlebury:
Yes – 480
No – 576

2,807 of the 13,839 Southbury voters, 20 percent, cast a ballot in the referendum.

The $61.95 million school budget is a 2.82% increase from last year and the first budget increase in Region 15 in three years.

The $18.98 million town budget is a 0.9% decrease from the previous year, due in large part to savings in employee medical coverage and energy costs.
