Southbury Parks and Recreation Department is hiring Summer Camp Counselor for Adventure Day Camp.

Position Summary:

Camp Counselor is responsible for youth in their assigned group. The Camp Counselor is also responsible for implementing camp program activities and events, as well as health and safety procedures. They will collaborate with other counselors to create recreational activities and lead campers in fun-filled projects.

Supervision Received:

Receives direct supervision and performance reviews by the Camp Director, Assistant Camp Director, Head Camp Counselor, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation, Director of Parks and Recreation, and Aquatics Supervisor.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • General knowledge of camp/recreation activities including sports, games, arts and crafts.
  • General knowledge of the rules of popular athletic activities.
  • Ability to plan and organize simple recreation activities.
  • Ability to follow directions and get along with fellow counselors.
  • Familiarity with the care and use of recreation equipment.
  • Certification in CPR/AED and First Aid for Adult and Pediatric Care.

    • Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the organization of games and maintains discipline at indoor and outdoor play area.
  • Assists in teaching the various games and rules of play.
  • Assists in the conduct of special recreation activities such as arts & crafts, dancing, drama, recreational sports, etc.
  • Plans, organizes and conducts simple recreation activities.
  • Takes necessary precautions to secure safety of campers.
  • Assists in housekeeping and light maintenance at the camp facilities.
  • Administers First Aid/CPR/AED if and when needed.
  • Follows camp objectives, rules, policies, and guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    • Required Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 15 years old by June 1, 2025.
  • Must be certified in CPR/AED and First Aid or obtain the certification by June 1, 2025.

    • Pay:

  • $16.35/hour.
  • Not to exceed 40 hours per week.
