Southington Community Band Has A Special Show On Tap

The Southington Symphonic Band's summer pops concert on Monday, June 23, will take a trip to the movies, with several movie themes planned.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Who says Mondays have to be bad?

In Southington this Monday, the start of the work week can be a nice night to enjoy beautiful music by your friends and neighbors.

That's because the Southington Symphonic Band will present its summer pops concert on Monday, June 23, at 7 p.m. in the Southington High School auditorium, 720 Pleasant St.

No tickets are necessary, but donations will be accepted.

The band is planning to perform several selections from the movies, including Hooray for
Hollywood, Ben-Hur, Catch Me if You Can, Lawrence of Arabia, Somewhere in Time, The Great
Race, Superman March, and Symphonic Suite from Star Trek.

The Southington Symphonic Band, directed by former SHS band director Jeff Shaw, was
established in January 2023.

Its members include former SHS band members and band parents, local music teachers, and players from Southington and neighboring communities.

Musicians, high school age or older, who play a band instrument, are welcome to join the
Southington Symphonic Band.

There are openings in all sections. Rehearsals will resume in September on Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m. in the SHS band room for the fall concert.

The group performs four or five concerts a year, and players can start after each concert cycle.
