13-Year-Old On Mini-Bike Killed In Hit And Run Crash, Stamford Police Say

STAMFORD, CT — A 13-year-old on a mini-bike was killed in a crash, Stamford police said.

Police said they are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision between a vehicle and a mini-bike, that occurred in the area of 316 Courtland Ave. on Saturday, at 8:47 p.m.

A teen, 13, was riding a mini bike southbound on Courtland Avenue. The juvenile was with a family member, who was on a scooter, police said. They had pulled out of the travel lane and over to the shoulder of Courtland Avenue for an unknown reason, police said.

As they were sitting on the side of the road, an unidentified vehicle struck the mini bike, causing the 13-year-old victim to be thrown from the mini bike and into the yard of a private residence, police said.

Two neighbors that lived in the area heard the collision and came out of their homes to assist, police said. Both performed CPR on the victim, until CPR was taken over by the Fire Department.

The victim was transported to Stamford Hospital.

"Despite a valiant effort by neighbors, the Stamford Fire Department, Stamford EMS and Stamford Hospital ED personnel, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at Stamford Hospital," police said. "Due to his age, the identity of the juvenile victim will not be released.
The vehicle that was involved fled the scene of the collision."

Based on evidence located at the scene, the suspect vehicle is a silver Honda, possibly an Accord, model year 2003-2007. There is also the possibility that this vehicle is multicolored with after market parts that may not match the original color of the vehicle, police said.

The suspect vehicle will also have significant damage to the front passenger side, and missing part of the front bumper. There are no suspects at this time, police added.
