2-Alarm Blaze Breaks Out In Stamford High-Rise: Fire Department

The Stamford Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.

STAMFORD, CT — Firefighters successfully battled a blaze at a Stamford high-rise building last Friday night, according to fire officials.

Firefighters were called to a report of a structure fire at an apartment building in the 440-block of Bedford Street in downtown Stamford at 11:41 p.m. on Oct. 10, the Stamford Fire Department said in a news release.

Arriving firefighters found smoke and fire visible from the top floor balcony of a nine-story apartment building, the SFD said.

A Stamford Public Safety Drone, part of a recently launched drone program from the city, was deployed and provided a video stream of the fire to the combined emergency communications center, the SFD noted.

A second alarm was sounded and an additional engine and ladder company arrived at the scene.

The fire was placed under control within 25 minutes of initial arrival, the SFD said.

Firefighters remained at the scene for an hour to assist the Stamford Fire Marshal's Office.

"Due to the time of day and location of this fire, the immediate efforts of Stamford firefighters prevented any injuries to the residents of this building and contained fire damage to the area of origin," Stamford Deputy Chief & Incident Commander Matt Palmer said in a news release.

A total of 40 fire department personnel responded to the scene. There were no injuries reported to firefighters or residents within the building.
