'The Armor of Light' to be Screened in Stamford

A panel discussion with local leaders and the subject of the film will follow the screening at The Avon Theatre.

STAMFORD, CT - CT Against Gun Violence is hosting a screening of the documentary The Armor of Light, and a panel discussion that will include Rev. Rob Schenck, the subject of the film.

The film from award-winning film maker Abigail Disney is scheduled to be shown at the Avon Theatre in Stamford on March 9 at 7:30 p.m.

Also scheduled to participate in the panel discussion are U.S. Rep. Jim Himes (D-4) and Dr. Tommie Jackson, pastor of Stamford-based Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church. A reception will be held preceding the film, starting at 6:45 p.m.

The gun law debate is told by Disney, who in her directorial debut reframes the debate through the story of ultra-conservative evangelical minister Rob Schenck and his ally Lucy McBath, mother of Jordon Davis, an unarmed teenager shot to death for playing his car radio loudly, according to CT Against Gun Violence.

Jonathan Perloe, Communications Director for CAGV, said in a statement, “The Armor of Light looks at gun violence through a completely different lens than most documentaries on the issue. It explores how a deeply ethical Evangelical minister questions his acceptance of America’s gun culture. He asks himself and challenges others about the moral consistency of glorifying gun ownership while claiming to treasure life.”
