Changing The City Charter: What Every Citizen Should Know

Just as the U.S. has a Constitution, Stamford’s got a city charter that governs everything from trash pickup to property taxes. It’s probably the most important document you’ve never heard of.

The League of Women Voters of Stamford is hosting a panel discussion on how Stamford’s city charter works, the revision process and how citizens can be involved in the process. The discussion will be held on Thursday, June 16th, at the Stamford Government Center in the Franklin Auditorium. Panel discussion, followed by Q&A, is scheduled for 6:30 – 7:45 p.m. Refreshments will be served prior to the presentation beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Presenters include former members of the Charter Revision Commission: Randy Skigen, President of the Stamford Board of Representatives, John Mallozzi, Members of the Stamford Board of Representatives, and Charles Grinnell, Attorney. The panel will be moderated by Stamford League Member Joanna Gwozdziowski.

The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
