Stamford Toastmasters Club's Annual Speech Contest

Members of the three Toastmasters public speaking clubs in Stamford will compete Tuesday evening in Toastmasters International’s annual area speech contest. This year’s event has two parts. The first contest, “Tall Tales,” features three-to-five minute speeches featuring a humorous, exaggerated story. The evening’s second contest features the “international” speech, in which contestants present a five- to seven-minute inspiring or entertaining speech.

“The contests are a great way to achieve personal best,” said Contest Chairman Malcolm Dickinson. “And this friendly competition gives contestants a fun way of using all the public speaking skills they’ve learned through Toastmasters in a supportive environment. You’ll witness storytelling at its improbable best in Tall Tales, and some uplifting inspirational speeches in the International contest.”

The five contestants competing on Tuesday have already won the contest at their local Toastmasters clubs. In each category, the top three speakers will be awarded trophies. The first place winners in each category will go on to compete at the Division Contest, where the area winners from across Fairfield County will compete on April 18 in Shelton, CT. The winners from six divisions across Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts will face off at the District 53 Fall Conference on May 21 in East Windsor, CT.

The event will be held Tuesday, April 5 at 7:00 p.m. in the second floor community room of 281 Tresser Boulevard, the office building next door to the Stamford Marriott hotel. All are welcome. Refreshments will be served.
