Man Was Drunk And Driving 80 MPH Before Serious Crash With Dump Truck, Stamford Police Say

The arrestee had to be extricated from his vehicle due to the severe damage from the July crash, police said.

STAMFORD, CT — A 48-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a July crash with a dump truck in Stamford, and police say speed and intoxication was a factor.

Michael Lombardo, of Stamford, was charged with operating under the influence and reckless operation, police said in a news release, noting he was traveling upwards of 80 mph with a BAC level of more than double the legal limit.

The incident occurred on July 28 at approximately 9 p.m. on Long Ridge Road near the intersection with Roxbury Road.

A 2007 Sterling full-size dump truck was traveling south on Long Ridge Road and started to slow down because the traffic light at Roxbury Road was cycling from green to red, police said.

A 2024 Kia EV6 SUV was also heading south on Long Ridge and hit the rear of the dump truck, causing severe damage to the Kia, police noted.

The driver of the Kia, later identified as Lombardo, suffered serious injuries and had to be extricated from his vehicle, police said. The driver of the dump truck was taken to Stamford Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Lombardo was released from custody after posting a $75,000 court-set bond, police said. He's scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 10.
