In Memoriam: Elizabeth Goldfarb

The long-time Stamford resident and business woman passed away Feb. 3 at the age of 93.

Elizabeth Goldfarb, age 93, passed quietly in her sleep February 3, 2016.

A longtime resident of Stamford, Elizabeth, a Holocaust survivor, escaped from Nurenburg, Germany in 1939 on the Kindertranport, arriving in England where she lived prior to emigrating to the United States taking up residency in N.Y.C.

Trained as a draper and pattern maker, she was employed in the haute couture industry working for Mainbocher and then Castillio with Elizabeth Arden.

Elizabeth married David Goldfarb in1950. They enjoyed a happy and successful marriage and business partnership for over 44 years, until David’s passing. Together they operated a women’s clothing store, The Fashion Post located in Riverside, and then in 1969, wanting to utilize their artistic talents, they opened Design Studio in Stamford. The successful jewelry store featured their unique design concepts, bringing a fresh vision to the industry.

Elizabeth was an active community volunteer. She performed volunteer work for the FISH program, and volunteered at the Stamford Chapter of Hadassah Thrift Shop, to name a few.

As a member of Hadassah, Elizabeth served as president of the Stamford chapter, and was the recipient of numerous awards for her organizing and fund-raising efforts for the organization.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughters Rachel H. Girshick of Hampton, Miriam B. Goldfarb of Stamford, her grandchildren Tara E. Girshick of Pawtucket, RI, and Alexander M. Girshick of Windham.

Funeral services will be at Leo P. Gallagher and Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford, Friday, Feb. 5, at 12 p.m.

Shiva will be observed at 122 Palmers Hill Rd., Unit 3232, Stamford, on Saturday, Feb. 6, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 7, 2 to 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to Hadassah, the Blue Card, or The Jewish Foundation for The Righteous.
