Near and Far Aid Awards $10,000 Grant to Stamford Public Education Foundation

The grant will support the foundation's student mentoring programs.

STAMFORD, CT – The Stamford Public Education Foundation (SPEF) has announced that it has received a $10,000 grant from Near & Far Aid to support its Stamford Mentoring Program, which serves to eliminate the achievement gap.

The Southport-based Near & Far Aid is an all-volunteer fundraising and fund granting organization that funds programs that are designed to eliminate the causes and effects of poverty in Fairfield County.

President, Near & Far Aid Joan Panagos said in a statement “Near & Far Aid values our partners, like SPEF, who are making a meaning difference in the lives of so many men, women and children living in poverty. We accomplish our mission by finding and funding programs that provide life’s most basic necessities, as well as those seeking to achieve lasting change, as SPEF’s Mentoring Program does.”

SPEF’s nationally-recognized Stamford Mentoring Program serves Stamford Public School elementary, middle and high school students who need additional academic and social support. Mentors help students set goals, improve their academic standing, become engaged in after-school activities and prepare for college, career training or full-time employment after high school graduation.

The Stamford Public Education Foundation supports literacy initiatives and provides Service-Learning Mentoring as well as college and career preparation at the middle and high school levels.
