Stamford Board Of Reps. President Jeff Curtis Dies At 69

Jeff Curtis served on the Stamford Board of Reps. from 1991 to 1998, and then again beginning in 2019. He was elected BOR president in 2021.

STAMFORD, CT — Jeff Curtis, who had served as president of the Stamford Board of Representatives since 2021, died on July 15 at Stamford Hospital. He was 69 years old.

According to the Stamford Advocate, Curtis died with his family by his side due to medical complications following a week-long stay at the hospital.

"Jeff was a man of quiet strength, fierce loyalty, and endless generosity. He was the rock of his family, the kind of man who led not just with words, but with action, dedication, and a deep sense of responsibility," his obituary says.

A lifelong Stamford resident, Curtis graduated from J.M. Wright Technical School in 1973, specializing in mechanical drafting.

He served as operations manager in facilities management at Stamford Hospital for nearly three decades, and later continued his career at Norwalk Hospital for several years, his obituary notes.

"Jeff also believed deeply in giving back to the community that raised him. From 1991 to 1998, and again beginning in 2019, he served on various city committees," his obituary says. "His most recent and proudest role was as President of Stamford's 31st Board of Representatives, where he worked to create a better future for the city he loved."

Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons issued a statement Thursday on Curtis.

"I am deeply saddened by the passing of Board of Representatives President Jeff Curtis. A lifelong Stamford resident, Jeff was a dedicated public servant who cared deeply about our city and gave his time and energy to a wide range of civic and community organizations," Simmons said. "I was grateful for his years of service during my first term as Mayor. My thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time."

Stamford Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Tamu Lucero also released a statement.

"I am deeply saddened by the recent passing of Board of Representatives President Jeff Curtis. Jeff was a proud child of Stamford who dedicated many years in service to this community, both as a long-time member and recent President of the Board of Representatives and as a parishioner at Sacred Heart Church. He was a strong advocate for Stamford Public Schools who believed in the value of quality public education. On behalf of everyone at Stamford Public Schools, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to Jeff's family and friends."

A wake for Curtis is scheduled for July 18 at Lacerenza Macari Family Funeral Home in Stamford, according to his obituary.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on July 19 at 9:45 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church.
