Stamford Man Suspected of Drunk Driving in Greenwich

Greenwich Police say the motorist crossed the double-yellow line and drove that way for an eighth of a mile.

A Stamford man is facing a driving while intoxicated charge after a Greenwich Police officer observed him “cross the double-yellow line” and drive that way for about an eighth of a mile on Delavan Avenue.

It was about 12:40 a.m. Feb. 12 when the officer saw the suspect’s veer from the westbound lane into the eastbound lane, according to a police report.

The driver also tried to leave the scene when the officer pulled him over by turning onto Mead Avenue when he stopped again, according to the report.

The man, identified as Sergio E. Agustin-Lopez, 30, of Stillwater Avenue, Stamford, had red, glassy eyes, the odor of alcoholic beverages on his breath, and failed field sobriety tests, according to the report.

In addition to the DWI charge, Agustin-Lopez was cited for failure to drive right and operating without a license. He was released after posting a $250 bond. He is scheduled to appear Feb. 26 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
