STAMFORD, CT — The Stamford Police Department is warning residents about a new phone scam involving the department's own dispatch number.

"We're currently experiancing [sic] a high volume of calls due to our dispatch number - (203) 977-4444 being spoofed," police said in a Facebook post Thursday. "Scammers are posing as Stamford Dispatch and falsely claiming that you owe fines or have a warrant for your arrest that require you to make payment over the phone."

Police said the department does not call to inform residents about fines.
