Stamford Settles Dog Bite Lawsuit

The victim will receive $290,000 after he was bitten by a Rottweiler that was up for adoption at the Stamford animal shelter.

STAMFORD, CT - A man who sued the City of Stamford after he was bitten by a dog he was considering to adopt from the Stamford Animal Shelter has settled the lawsuit for $290,000.

The attorney representing Matthew Lazarus told The Advocate that the suit was settled last month.

Lazarus was 27 in 2012 when he visited the shelter on Magee Avenue and a shelter volunteer showed him a Rottweiler that was up for adoption. The animal bit Lazarus on the hand causing permanent damage that prevents him from working in the air conditioning and heating industry, according to The Advocate.

Lazarus' attorney Alan Scott Pickel said the dog had a history of biting two previous owners and should not have been shown.
