Stamford Urges Construction Safety With High Winds In Forecast

The Stamford Building Department is asking construction crews and property owners to make sure equipment is secure as a nor'easter moves in.

STAMFORD, CT — The Stamford Building Department is asking construction crews and property owners to make sure equipment is secure as high winds and rain are forecast for the area.

A nor'easter will bring heavy rain, flooding concerns, and strong wind gusts to the state, especially on Tuesday and Wednesday. Connecticut could see 2-4 inches of rain, and a flash flood watch has been issued for southern Connecticut.

"Winds may reach higher speeds and last longer than forecast in certain areas of the City," the Building Department said in an online notice. "Property owners must consider the safety of their buildings and construction sites."

The city shared several steps to safeguard construction sites, including tying down material, covering electrical equipment so it is not exposed to the weather, and suspending crane and hoist operations at certain wind speeds.

Monday will feature rain at times and possibly thunderstorms, especially at night, more rain and storms on Tuesday and winds will intensify on Tuesday. The rain should end Wednesday morning, and the winds will remain strong. The sun returns on Thursday and then more rain on Friday and Saturday.
