Stamford Woman Charged in Unemployment Scam

The suspect is accused of collecting thousands in unemployment benefits when she actually was working.

A Stamford woman is facing a first-degree larceny charge in connection with collecting thousands of dollars in unemployment benefits while she actually was employed.

The suspect worked for temporary employment agencies from February 2011 through July 2013 while collecting $23,101 in unemployment benefits from the state Department of Labor, according to The Advocate.

On Thursday, Kawanda D. Brickhouse, 37, of Revere Drive, was arrested on one count of first-degree larceny by defrauding a public community and unemployment compensation fraud. Brickhouse was released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Feb. 18 in state Superior Court in New Britain, according to The Advocate story that can be found here.
