Student Injured In Hit-And-Run While Crossing Street In Stamford: Report
The student was trying to cross the street to get to a school bus, according to a local media report.
STAMFORD, CT — A 12-year-old student suffered minor injuries after being hit by a car while crossing the street to get to a school bus last week, according to a report Monday from the Stamford Advocate.
The incident occurred on Oct. 22 on Henry Street by Garden Street around 7:30 a.m., the Advocate reported, noting the car left the scene, but the school bus driver was able to record the driver's license plate.
"Last week, one of our students was struck by a vehicle that failed to stop while our school bus stop-arm was deploying. Thankfully, the student did not sustain serious injuries, but the incident serves as a serious reminder of the dangers posed when drivers ignore school bus safety laws," a spokesperson from the school bus company, First Student, said in an emailed statement to Patch.

"We urge all motorists to remain alert and to always stop when a school bus displays its flashing red lights and extended stop-arm. These signals are not optional – they are critical safeguards designed to protect children as they board or exit the bus," First Student added. "We are grateful that this situation did not result in more serious harm, and we remain committed to promoting awareness and accountability around school bus safety."
An arrest was not reported as of Monday afternoon.
