Traffic Stop Yields Seizure of 3 Pounds of Pot in Stamford

Connecticut State Police conducting traffic enforcement Tuesday night stopped a driver who allegedly had the weed stashed in his Jeep.

Connecticut State Police seized three pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop on I-95 in Stamford Tuesday night.

It was about 9:10 p.m. Feb. 16, when troopers from Troop G-Bridgeport were conducting motor vehicle enforcement on I-95 northbound in Stamford when they observed a Jeep Grand Cherokee commit a motor vehicle violation.

Troopers stopped the Jeep near northbound Exit 9. Police said, “Through the course of the investigation Troopers determined there were narcotics contained in the vehicle.”

State Police K9 Nero was brought to the scene and during a search of the interior and exterior of the vehicle, and located approximately three pounds of packaged marijuana.

The driver, identified as Larry J. Thomas, 44, of Hamilton Street, Bridgeport, was arrested on possession of more than four ounces of a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell and a motor vehicle offense of restricted turn.

Thomas was released after posting $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear March 2 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

The suspected marijuana also was transported to Troop G where it was held as evidence.
