East Lyme High School Challenges Students To Do More
The Washington Post ranks East Lyme High School as one of the most challenging schools in Connecticut.

The Washington Post's recent report of "American's Most Challenging Schools" ranked East Lyme High School as the 16th most challenging school in Connecticut.
Schools were assessed in a variety of ways. The index score given to East Lyme High School was 1.749. That's the number of college-level tests given at a school in 2012 divided by the number of graduates that year.
Also noted are the percentage of students who come from families that qualify for lunch subsidies. In East Lyme, that was 8.5. Then there was the percentage of graduates who passed at least one college-level test during their high school career. In East Lyme, that was 36 percent.
The ranking is based on an index developed by Jay Mathews, a Washington Post education columnist, and is determined by the ratio of: "the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests given at a school in 2012, divided by the number of graduates that year."
