East Lyme's Got Talent!

East Lyme Youth Services "Kids for Newtown Talent Show" will be held at 6:30 p.m. on March 15 at East Lyme Middle School.

When a tragedy such as the school shooting at Sandy Hook happens, a lot of people are moved to do something to help. Members of the Student Planning Association at East Lyme Youth Services put their heads together and decided to organize a fundraiser.

The result is the "Kids for Newtown Talent Show," which will be held on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at East Lyme Middle School. After a series of auditions, the roster is now set and the program promises a diverse evening of entertainment, with singing, dancing, and even a little magic.

The show opens with Corrine Lucas, singing "Forever and Always" by Taylor Swift. Hannah Vanasse will be singing an original song, then joining Dennis Carabot to sing and dance to Justin Beiber's "Beauty and the Beat," then joining Kristina Fenton in a performance of Katy Perry's "Wide Awake."

Not everyone is focussed on the current pop sensations. Among the six dance numbers slated for the evening, Hannah McLaughlin will be tapping to "Singing in the Rain." And Jacob Graham will be singing and playing the Eagles' classic, "Hotel California."

Adam Cappazoli will perform magic and the night will end with Kent Place and Friends singing and dancing to the inescapable Gangnam Style, at which point everyone is invited to join the fun!

Tickets are $5 at the door. There will be an opportunity to make additional donations or buy any number of baked goods during intermission. DVDs of the performance will be available for sale after the show from East Lyme Youth Services Director Sarah Butterfield at sarahelyouth@yahoo.com.
