Everyone Loves A Parade! Lyme and Old Lyme Celebrate the Fourth of July

Looking for a Parade on July 4th? Lyme has one and Old Lyme's Sound View Beach Association will hold its on Saturday. Everyone is invited to march!

A lot of towns are saving their 4th of July celebrations until the weekend but not Lyme. The Cove Road 4th of July Parade has been a town tradition for years and this year is no exception.

Participants gather between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Thursday at Camp Claire on Cove Road in Lyme. No registration is needed. Just show up if you want to march. The parade begins at about 10 a.m. or, as the town's web site puts it, "when everyone is ready."

The parade ends at the Lyme Grange for a picnic. Food is provided by Lyme Parks and Recreation and there will be music from Two for the Show.

Sound View Beach Parade in Old Lyme Saturday

Old Lyme's “home town” community Independence Day Parade will be Saturday, July 6, when Sound View Beach Association will hold its 19th annual Independence Day Parade.

The parade includes civic groups, Boy/Girl scouts, Cub scouts, Brownies, athletic teams, military veterans but everyone is invited to march. Decorate your bikes and wagons, build a float, wear a patriotic costume, pets are also welcome to march along!

A marching band, police, fire and ambulance trucks all contribute to a real small town fun experience. Award ribbons in categories such as best-decorated bike, most patriotic outfit, best float, and pet.

Meeting time is 9:45 a.m. at the Shoreline Community Center, 39 Hartford Ave., in Old Lyme and step-off is 10:00 a.m. The parade route includes Hartford, Swan, and Portland Avenues.

Entries in the Parade must be in good taste and in conformance with the Mission and family atmosphere of the Sound View Beach Association Inc. The decision of the Board of Directors is final.

The Sound View Beach Association is an all volunteer, non-profit, civic organization. The SVBA owns and manages the Shoreline Community Center and also provides the flags in the Sound View area. Everyone is invited to join or help. The organization welcomes new members, volunteers and donations. All donations are tax deductable and we are registered for “matching gift” grants with many companies.
