Four Burglaries Reported In Lyme In February

Last spring, a rash of burglaries in Lyme took local residents by surprise. The town's typically low crime rate makes it the kind of place where most people feel quite comfortable leaving their doors unlocked. Now, a second wave of burglaries has Lyme residents feeling unnerved yet again.  

This month, four burglaries have been reported to police (see map at right for locations). The first was reported on February 4 on Gungy Road. The second happened about 10 days later at 138 Blood Street. The third occurred on February 18 at 94 Joshuatown Road and the most recent happened February 22 at 16 Bill Hill Road. 

The thief or thieves are making off with valuable items that are easy to carry and easy to sell, primarily jewelry.

All of the burglaries happened during the day and involved forced entry. Police believe that a tool, perhaps a crow bar, may have been used to gain entry to the home on Joshuatown Road.

None of the property owners were home at the time, although the houses weren't necessarily empty for long. The robbery on Joshuatown Road, for instance, occurred while the home owner was out between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Although a number of homes in Lyme have long driveways that make them difficult to see from the road, most of the homes targeted so far are close to the road. That increases the chances that someone may have seen something.
