Get Fresh At Niantic Farmers Market!

Hungry for dinner? Stop by Niantic Farmers Market on your way home every Thursday for fresh produce and even dinner to go from local restaurants.

Niantic Farmers Market opened for the season on Thursday, with vendors from local farms selling everything from garlic to strawberries, potted plants and hand made crafts. Local restaurants including Flanders Fish Market and La Belle Aurore were also represented, selling food to go.

Teri Smith of Smith Acres in Niantic, who organizes the market, says there are more vendors than ever this year. New to the market is Nancy Hutchins of Long Water Farm. On November 17, 2012, she applied for and was granted a permit by the Zoning Commission to turn her gardens in Niantic into an organic market garden.

Jim and Ada Moore and Amy Albano of Covenant Fields in Old Lyme were at today's market, selling both produce and crafts, and locally made maple syrup. Jack Yurgel of New England Green Mushrooms was selling Shiitake mushrooms grown in Tolland.

There will be more vendors and more and ever-changing offerings at the farmers market as the season progresses. The market is held at the Methodist Street Parking lot just off Main Street in Niantic from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. every Thursday from now to Columbus Day.
