Is The Eastern Cougar on The Prowl In Connecticut?

Find out why these big cats may be returning to Connecticut from a cougar expert who will give a presentation on May 2 at First Congregational Church in Old Lyme.

In recent years, Connecticut residents have reported sighting big cats and the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has confirmed at least one Eastern Cougar in the state when one of the animals was found dead on the highway.

Is this a sign that the big cats are returning to their old haunts?

Find out on Thursday, May 2, when Bill Betty, a mountain lion expert from Rhode Island, will give a presentation at First Congregational Church, 2 Ferry Road in Old Lyme at 7 p.m. Betty will give a 90-minute powerpoint presentation and will be bringing in items for "show and tell."

The talk will cover all aspects of cougar behavior, sport hunting, and discuss various theories as to why the big cats are being sighted once more in the region. Having had a number of close encounters with Eastern cougars in New England, New York, and Canada, Betty has some pretty exciting stories to share.

The event, which is sponsored by the Potapaug Audubon, is free. No advanced registration is required.
