Niantic Woman Killed In Car Crash

Mary C. Heath of Niantic was pronounced dead at the scene of a single car accident that closed Route 9 by the ramp to 1-95 in Old Saybrook yesterday.

Police have released the name of the woman killed in single car crash on Route 9 on the ramp to 1-95 northbound in Old Saybrook yesterday.

State Police from Troop F responded to the accident report at about 3:22 p.m. on April 17. Police say Mary C. Heath, 59, of 153 Pennsylvania Avenue in Niantic was pronounced dead at the scene. She was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Route 9 southbound was closed for several hours yesterday afternoon as police investigated the accident. Police say that based on their investigation so far, it appeared that Heath was on the ramp leading from Route 9 Southbound to I-95 Northbound when she lost control of her vehicle, left the roadway and struck a bridge structure. The cause of death is listed as blunt force trauma. 

The accident is still under investigation.
