Old Lyme Suicide Prevention—In Loving Memory of Jon Glenn
Lyme-Old Lyme High School class of '08 sets up a fund to memorialize their friend and classmate, Jon Glenn, and to help other students who may be struggling with mental health issues.
Jonathan Glenn, a much-loved graduate of Lyme-Old Lyme High School Class of 2008, passed away in December of 2011 while in his senior year of college. His death has inspired the Class of ’08 to create the Jonathan E. Glenn Memorial Fund, to honor his memory while providing suicide awareness and prevention programs to both the schools and the local community.
The main aim of the Jonathan E. Glenn Memorial Fund is to prevent another sad loss by addressing the mental health of students and to ensure that students will be able to get the help that they need. The Jonathan E. Glenn Memorial Fund will be used to:

- Create a Memorial Four Square Court at the Lymes’ Youth Service Bureau (LYSB). This court will provide a place for students to play, laugh and have fun while remembering a friend who brightened so many lives. During his senior year of high school, Jon and his friends spray-painted a four square court outside the cafeteria doors and he spent more time playing four square than eating lunch!
- Donate a memorial bench to Lyme-Old Lyme High School in Jon’s memory.
- Implement a suicide prevention awareness initiative, coordinated through the Lymes’ Youth Service Bureau (LYSB), to include curriculum and guest speakers in the schools, and to help educate the community as a whole.
In addition to the LYSB, local businesses have also volunteered their time to help with the construction of the Jonathan E. Glenn Memorial Four Square Court. Montano & Sons will do the excavation and cement work, and Johnson & Nunn will do the design, brick work and landscaping.
“Jon Glenn was an unforgettable person who brought joy and happiness to his family, friends and the Lyme-Old Lyme community” said Ali McPherson.

“His contagious laugh and smile will never be forgotten” adds Alyssa Hoynack.
Many knew and loved Jon Glenn and recognize the impact that his life and death has had on this community. The committee has set a fundraising goal of $10,000, which it hopes to reach by May. For more information please visit the fund’s website www.jonathanglennmemorial.org.
