Possible Scam: Beware of Strangers Offering Free Medical Alert Systems in Lyme
State police caution people not to give out personal information over the phone and never invite an unsolicited caller to visit.

Earlier today, a Lyme resident reported a suspicious call from an individual offering a free medical alert system. According to Lyme First Selectman Ralph Eno, the person refused to identify himself or the company for which he worked. He simply inquired as to when he might come out to the resident’s home to install the system.
The caller I.D. registered this number: 860-453-6892, ” Unknown Name.” A State Police check on the number that appeared on caller ID failed to produce a company or company representative.
State Police warn residents not to give out any personal information, especially not social security numbers or credit card numbers, to anyone unknown who calls. Never invite any unidentified caller to your home.
For all non-emergency police needs, Lyme residents have also been advised to call State Police Troop F in Westbrook at the main desk number (860) 399-2100, rather than calling a specific officer. This will enable people to be assisted sooner and their complaints can be logged and investigated as the event is happening or shortly thereafter by a police officer on duty.
