Search Resumes For Missing Fisherman From Old Saybrook

Old Lyme Fire Department joined the search for the missing man who went overboard into the Connecticut River on Sunday.

Old Lyme emergency responders joined the search for a 58-year-old fisherman from Old Saybrook who went missing in the Connecticut River yesterday.

According to the Hartford Courant, the man dove into the Connecticut River close to where it flows into Long Island Sound to retrieve a fishing pole. Three other people were on board the boat with him, one of whom went in after him. The other three people were brought to shore safely.

The Hartford Courant said the missing person report came in at about 8:15 p.m. on Sunday. The U.S. Coast Guard, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Environmental Conservation Police, along with firefighters from Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, Haddam, Clinton, and Westbrook, continued searching late into the night using 12 boats and a helicopter, along with sonar scanning equipment. 

The U.S. Coast Guard continued search continued throughout the night. More rescue workers were back on the water this morning to resume the search.
