Shred It and Go Play in East Lyme, Art Is Free In Old Lyme, and Explore the Dead Center of Town in Lyme

Five things to do in East Lyme, Old Lyme, and Lyme this weekend, May 4-5, 2013.

The weather this weekend is predicted to be sunny with temperatures in the 60s and no chance of rain. So if you're looking for things to do, here's what's happening.

Shredding it in East Lyme: You don't need to be a secret agent to shred your secrets. If you've got paper you need to destroy, East Lyme's shredding it on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Senior Center on Society Road. The service is free, but if you can manage to bring a few nonperishable food items for East Lyme Care & Share, all donations will be gratefully accepted.

Creative Playschool Carnival! If you're looking for something fun to do with the kids on Saturday, you don't have to go far. Creative Playschool, a cooperative preschool in East Lyme, will hold its annual carnival today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lillie B. Haynes School in Niantic. There will be games, a roaming train, an inflatable obstacle course, fun with DJ Rinoski, spin art, a karate demonstration, hands-on activities, and Amber Alert registrations. Best of all, everything is free!

Ferry Me Home: Hadlyme Public Hall Association will hold its annual meeting on Saturday at 5 p.m. where the main topic of discussion will be the community response to Connecticut Department of Transportation's proposal to double the ferry fares to cross the Connecticut River to Chester. The association will also elect new officers.

Art Is Free For All At The Florence Griswold Museum: Saturday, May 4, is the 10th annual community day at the Old Lyme museum and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. admission will be free! Explore the museum, make art, visit an artist's studio, sample the Old Lyme Ice Cream Shop's beer icecream, or just relax and be inspired by the beauty of it all!

Explore The Dead Center of Lyme: Are you curious about the secrets that lay buried in Lyme? You can find out more about the histories and a few of the mysteries surrounding the notable names in town on Sunday when Lyme Public Hall offers a tour of Cove Cemetery at 2 p.m. Just show up at the graveyard on Ferry Road in Hadlyme or call (860) 526-8886 for more information.
