The Daily Five: Brushing Off Winter, St. Patrick's Parades—Three Marchers Injured in Hartford
Five things to know for East Lyme, Old Lyme, and Lyme on Monday, March 11, 2013.

1. Weather.com is predicting a mostly cloudy day with a high temperature of 49 degrees and an overnight low of 41 degrees. There's a 10 percent chance of rain today, increasing to a 20 percent chance of rain tonight.
2. In case you missed it, Hartford and New Haven both held their St. Patrick's Day parades over the weekend. New London will hold its annual parade this coming weekend, with Mystic's to follow on March 24. The Parade in Hartford was marred by a hit and run accident that injured three pedestrians in the march on Trumbull Street in Hartford. Luckily, fire fighters from Sandy Hook were nearby and able to give assistance. The driver of the vehicle has been arrested.

3. Old Lyme Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing tonight at Old Lyme Memorial Town Hall at 7:30 p.m. for an application for a Special Permit to allow renovation and modification of an existing convenience store building and minor reconfiguration of the existing parking lot, at 85 Halls Road. The applicant also hopes to expand the existing retail convenience store space into the area currently occupied by three automobile repair bays.
4. Schools are gearing up for the spring and sports season, with a long list of coaches for track and field, lacrosse, golf, baseball, softball and crew being announced at tonight's East Lyme Board of Education meeting. The Board of Education will also hear a presentation on the teacher evaluation system that the state is now mandating all school districts adopt. Click here for the full agenda.

5. Although Old Lyme and East Lyme aren't doing curbside brush pickup, following the most recent snow storms, the towns are allowing residents to bring brush to the transfer stations at no cost. East Lyme residents have until noon, March 16, to take advantage of this.
